Picture Slides 40-50 years old, are a TREASURE for me!

After all these years, finding these pictures that were my Dads is an amazing gift for me. They came in the format of "Minox" slides...look below. I think I looked at over 1000 slides. Since I did not have a projector, I used the magnifying glass and a lamp to go through them.  I am sure there was a smarter way to do this..... but....being that I am not the most patient person, I wanted to see them all and not wait to find a projector.
Here are some thought I had as I was going through the slides. I hope these observations help you as you continue to preserve your memories and lives lessons for your family and friends.

  • Who were the people in the slides and what kind of relationship did they have to Dad?
  • The scenery and sailing pictures were nice, but there were so many and without knowing where and when they were taken, they were not important for me to keep.
  • I was so thrilled to see never before pictures of my childhood with my family. Some represented memories I had that I wasn't sure we really did. Nice to know the events were captured. I now remember why camping is not my thing......enough said. :)
  • I am sure Dad planned on sharing these pictures with others and narrating them with his stories and thoughts. He did not get the chance. Without that, the pictures missed so much of what they represented to a man I hoped to get more insight into.
What I learned:
  • Journal more. Share my relationships and why they are important to me.
  • Make sure to share quotes, wisdoms, and insights into living that inspire me.  God willing, my family will be able to learn from my experiences,, both good and bad to enhance their lives.
  • How amazing would it be to know that  my father or siblings had some of the struggles and lives questions that I do? I would love to have known how they saw the world and what strategies they used themselves.  These are the things we want to capture in our legacy albums we create.
Take a little more time when you create your layouts to make sure you say a bit about yourself and why you treasure what you do. Share your values and pass those on in your albums.
